At West Georgia Eye Care, we understand that navigating insurance coverage for your eye exam, glasses, contact lenses, and vision care services can be confusing. We are committed to helping you understand how your health insurance can contribute to covering eye care services and how our billing works to maximize your benefits.

As of January 1, 2023, we are not in network with traditional vision benefit plans. However, many medical insurance plans still provide coverage for comprehensive eye exams and medically-necessary vision services. Because the eyes are part of your overall health, many medical plans will cover services related to diagnosing or managing systemic and ocular conditions. Buy now, pay later options are available. What This Means for Your Eye Care in Carrollton, GA

  • We are in-network providers with most major medical insurance plans. Please bring your medical insurance card to your appointment so our staff can assist with insurance verification.

  • Some medical plans cover the comprehensive eye exam portion of your visit, especially when the exam includes evaluation of eye health or treatment of medical conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes-related eye issues, retinal concerns, or dry eye symptoms.

  • Vision benefit plans (like VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, and others) usually function as out-of-network vision benefits for routine wellness exams and eyewear. We can help you understand how to submit claims for reimbursement if you choose to use your vision plan benefits.

  • If you are unsure whether your plan covers eye care services, our knowledgeable team is happy to assist you with benefit questions and billing guidance.

How Insurance Can Help Cover Eye Exams & Vision Care

Many patients assume that vision insurance is the only way to cover eye care costs — but that’s not always the case. Medical insurance often contributes to comprehensive eye exams and eye health services when the exam includes evaluation or treatment of eye disease or related conditions. Vision benefit plans typically assist with wellness components (like refraction and glasses/contact lenses), which may be reimbursable even if we are out of network.

We’re Here to Help You Maximize Your Benefits

Our Carrollton eye care team will:

  • Verify your medical insurance coverage before your appointment

  • Explain what parts of your visit may be covered and what may be self-pay

  • Provide you with documentation to file out-of-network claims with your vision plan if desired

If you have questions about how your insurance benefits apply to eye exams, eyewear, or contact lens services, please contact us or bring your insurance information to your visit. We’re happy to help you understand your coverage and options.

How much is an eye exam?

The cost of a routine eye exam is $187. This includes a comprehensive exam, refraction (test of your glasses prescription), and

photos of the back of your eye. Contact lens testing starts at $50 and increases with the complexity of contact lens type.

Medical office visits and those with medical diagnoses (i.e. diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts, etc) follow a different fee schedule and

can be billed to your medical insurance.
